Desmond Shepherd
Desmond Shepherd, MA, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice in Dallas, Texas. He has worked in the mental health profession since 1996, working with mental health patients and clients in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, mental health agencies, and in private practice. Desmond has worked with families, children, adolescents, and adults, in the areas of mood and anxiety disorders, depression, anger management, various traumas, including childhood traumas such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, and severe neglect. He is also skilled in working with clients seeking help with marital and relationship problems. Shepherd also does Christian counseling with clients who have a preference for Christian based counseling.​
Desmond’s career in mental health began in 1996 working with adult mental health patients in an inpatient facility. He later transitioned to working with children who were severely affected by traumatic events in their lives. He is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Brainspotting (BSP), and Trauma Systems Therapy (TST). Desmond has also been involved in training foster parents in the methods behavior management to help children heal from being victims of trauma caused by various abuses. He also works with adults who are still suffering from the effects of childhood traumas, resulting in anxiety, depression and stress, and who feel trapped in their past negative experiences.
Desmond also specializes in marriage and family counseling for married and premarital couples. He is trained in Training in Prevention and Relationship Enhancement which is designed to help couples develop proper communication, and positive conflict resolution in relationships. He is also trained in Prepare/Enrich a well-researched and evidenced based tool to help married couples, and to also prepare pre-marital couples for a successful marriage relationship. Desmond has completed the Level 1 training Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which is an evidenced based and effective therapy for marriage relationships. His approach to counseling is compassionate, caring, and supportive. Desmond is a good listener whose focus is always on his client working towards a positive solution.
